Heat treatment of metal

Heat treatment of metal is an integral part of the metalworking industry. Types of heat treatment

There are various types of heat treatment of metals , which make it possible to obtain the desired metal structures. Depending on the tasks, the metal can be processed:
  • annealing.
  • hardening.
  • normalization.
  • vacation.
  • cryogenic treatment.

Features of different types of heat treatment

Annealing of the first kind ensures the obtaining of an equilibrium structure of steel without external transformations. Annealing of the second kind affects the external changes and helps to increase the strength of the metal several times. Heat treatment of metal provides high-speed cooling of metal, resulting in the formation of a nonequilibrium structure and increase in strength. One of the types of thermal treatment of metals is tempering, which provides a reduction or removal of the residual internal stress of the steel. Due to tempering, the metal acquires high viscosity values, and it becomes less brittle. Normalization is a heat treatment similar to annealing, but with a small feature that consists in cooling the metal extracted from the furnace in the air. Cryogenic treatment provides for the cooling of the material with extremely low temperatures, starting from an index of 153 degrees.
